Galati Mineral Port – Terwa Lifting Anchors for Quay Wall Modernization

The Galați Mineral Port in Romania is undergoing major modernization under the Galați Multimodal Platform (PMG), a development program designed to improve port accessibility, eliminates transport bottlenecks, and strengthens the region’s role along the Rhine–Danube logistics corridor.

Terwa is proud to support this project through the supply of certified lifting anchors and lifting systems, along with engineering assistance for the safe handling of heavy precast quay-wall elements.

Project Background

As part of PMG – Stage II, our partner Lemacons Construcții Galați completed extensive civil engineering works, including:

  • Upgrading access roads to improve traffic flow
  • Relocating a railway segment for safer logistic operations
  • Enhancing transport routes to accommodate increased cargo capacity

These improvements ensure that the Galați Mineral Port meets modern operational standards and is seamlessly integrated into Romania’s national rail and road networks.

Terwa's Contribution

Terwa delivered a complete precast lifting solution consisting of embedded lifting anchors, matching lifting systems, and project-specific engineering support.
Our team also prepared structural lifting calculations required to validate the safe handling and installation of each quay-wall element.

Applied Terwa Lifting Systems

SA-FAW Lifting Anchors

SA-FAW autocad + watermark.jpg

Used as the primary lifting points for handling and positioning the precast quay-wall elements.

SA-TTU Lifting Anchors

Used as the secondary lifting points to ensure balanced lifting geometry, improved stability, and controlled placement during installation.

TF2 Lifting Systems

Reliable corresponding lifting device used to connect the embedded anchors to the crane during lifting, rotation, and final positioning.

Anchor configuration per precast element:

  • 4 × SA-FAW anchors
  • 2 × SA-TTU anchors
  • 4 × TF2 lifting systems

This configuration ensures safe load transfer, stable handling, and compliance with our 2D Strip Anchor Lifting System requirements.

Engineering Support

Terwa’s engineering team provided complete lifting verification for the selected anchor layout.
The project-specific lifting calculation included:

  • Load and stress evaluation
  • Anchor capacity verification
  • Check of lifting angles and load distribution
  • Assessment of the installation sequence

This ensured each quay-wall element could be lifted, rotated, and installed safely and efficiently according to applicable standards.
